INTERNATIONAL OBSERVE THE MOON NIGHT 2017, Oct 28, 2017, worldwide
Event Navigation
NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Education and Outreach Team in cooperation with several partners has declared October 28, 2017 as the 2017 Observe the Moon Night. An annual event held since 201o, it is one day a year when “everyone on Earth is invited to observe and learn about the Moon together and to celebrate the cultural and personal connections we all have with Earth’s nearest neighbor.”
The date is chosen for when “a first quarter moon is visible in the afternoon and evening, a convenient time for most hosts and participants.” The “best observing is typically along the dusk/dawn terminator, where shadows are the longest, not at full Moon.”
Events take place around the world, as shown on the event’s website.
