ISS SPACEWALK 4 TO REPLACE BATTERIES, Jan 15, 2020, Earth orbit

(NASA TV coverage begins 5:30 am ET)

NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir will resume the series of spacewalks to replace batteries on the outside of the International Space Station (ISS) on January 15, 2020.   NASA TV coverage begins at 5:30 am ET. The spacewalk is scheduled to start at 6:50 am ET.

Five battery-replacement spacewalks were planned and three were conducted in October 2019. The last of those three also paired Koch and Meir and was the first all-female spacewalk in history.

A problem developed with one of the batteries after installation, however, so NASA suspended this set of spacewalks until now.  This will be the fourth.  The fifth is currently scheduled for January 20.  It also will be conducted by Koch and Meir.

NASA astronaut Drew Morgan and ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano are also conducting a series of unrelated spacewalks to repair the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), a cosmic particle detector mounted to the exterior of ISS.  Their next one is on January 25.
