JAXA’S HTV-7 CARGO SHIP DEPARTS ISS, Nov 7, 2018, Earth orbit, NASA TV coverage begins 11:30 am ET (webcast)

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s (JAXA’s) HTV-7 (or Kounotori-7) cargo spacecraft  will be released from the International Space Station (ISS) on November 7, 2018.  It was launched on September 22 (September 23 in Japan) and arrived at the ISS five days later, delivering 5 tons of supplies, water, spare parts and experiments to the ISS.

Release from Canadarm2 is scheduled for 11:50 am ET.  NASA coverage begins at 11:30 am ET and will be aired on NASA TV and the NASA Live website.

A new, small reentry capsule will be ejected from the HTV-7 later as a technology demonstration of JAXA’s ability to return small payloads from ISS.  It will be ejected when HTV-7 is far from the ISS, reenter, and land under parachute off the coast of Japan where a JAXA ship will recover it.  The rest of HTV-7 is not designed to survive reentry and will burn up in the atmosphere.
