LANDING OF CHANDRAYAAN-2 ON THE MOON, Sept 6, 2019, 5:20 pm EDT (Sept 7, 2:50 am IST)

India’s lunar lander/rover is scheduled to land on the Moon on September 7, 2019 at 2:50 am Indian Standard Time (September 6, 5:20 pm Eastern Daylight Time).

Chandrayaan-2 consists of an orbiter plus a lander/rover.  The complete spacecraft was launched on July 22 and will arrive in lunar orbit on August 20. The lander/rover will separate from the orbiter and land on the surface in the South Pole region.

The lander is named Vikram after the founder of India’s space program, Vikram Sarabhai.  The 6-wheeled rover is named Praygan  (wisdom in Sanskrit).

Visit ISRO’s website for Chandrayaan-2 for more information on the mission.  It provides the final scheduling for the lander/rover to separate from the orbiter, make two deorbit burns, and lands.  All times are in Indian Standard Time
