The 51st Lunar and Planetary Science Conference was cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Instead, the Lunar and Planetary Institute has scheduled three virtual meetings that will take place on March 16, March 17, and March 19.
The March 16 Town Hall is an “Update on Planning for the National Academies’ Decadal Survey in Planetary Science and Astrobiology.”
Information from the LPI website is as follows:
March 16, 2020
12:00–1:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Daylight Time (GMT -5)
Representatives from the National Academies’ Space Studies Board (SSB) and NASA will provide an overview of the progress made towards preparing and organizing for the survey, along with an updated schedule for its implementation. Community involvement is an essential feature of all phases of the decadal process and a critical component to the success of the survey. The SSB welcomes all community input on matters facing the next survey, which include (but are not limited to) the technical and programmatic scope, structure, the cost and technical evaluation process, the role of early-career scientists, and the international context.
Colleen Hartman, Director, National Academies Space Studies Board
Lori Glaze, Director, Planetary Science Division, NASA
David H. Smith, Study Director, National Academies Space Studies Board
