NASA BFG ON NEXT SLS CORE STAGE TEST, Dec 10, 2020, virtual, 12:00 pm ET

NASA will hold a media teleconference on December 10, 2020 at 12:00 pm ET to discuss the next test in the Green Run series of tests of the core stage of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.

The test itself is taking place over several days beginning December 5.

The Green Run is a series of eight tests. This is the seventh and called the “wet dress” because it is a dress rehearsal for the final test.  In the wet dress, the core stage is  filled with fuel, but not fired.  In the eighth and final “hot fire” test, it will be filled with fuel and the engines fired for the full 8 minutes they must work to reach orbit.  In this case, the core stage will be held in place on an enormous test stand at Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.

Audio of the December 10 media teleconference will be streamed on the NASA Live website.

Participants are:

  • John Honeycutt, SLS program manager, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center
  • Julie Bassler, SLS stages manager, Marshall
  • Maury Vander, chief of test operations, Stennis
  • Mark Nappi, Green Run manager, Boeing (which is the prime contractor for SLS)
