NASA BRIEFING ON GOLD EARTH SCIENCE MISSION, Jan 4, 2018, 1:00 pm ET, virtual
Event Navigation
NASA will hold a briefing on January 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm ET on the upcoming Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) earth science mission. GOLD is a hosted payload on a commercial satellite (SES-14) scheduled for launch on January 25 aboard an Ariane rocket from Kourou, French Guiana. It is the first NASA instrument to fly as a hosted payload on a commercial satellite.
GOLD will “inspect from geostationary orbit the dynamic intermingling of space and the Earth’s upper atmosphere” where “terrestrial weather in the lower atmosphere interacts with the tumult of solar activity from above and Earth’s magnetic field.”
The briefing will be broadcast on NASA Live and NASA’s Sun Science Facebook page.
Participating in the January 4 briefing are:
- Sarah Jones, GOLD mission scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland
- Alex Young, associate director for heliophysics science, Goddard
- Todd Gossett, senior director of hosted payloads at SES Government Solutions, Reston, Virginia
