NASA HONORS TUSKEGEE AIRMAN CHARLES MCGEE, Feb 5, 2020, DC, 11:30 am ET

(webcast)

NASA will honor Air Force Col. (Ret.) Charles McGee, one of only nine surviving Tuskegee Airmen from World War II, as part of its celebration of Black History Month on February 5, 2020 at NASA headquarters.  The ceremony begins at 11:30 pm ET.

The event will be broadcast on NASA TV and NASA Live.  It includes astronaut Alvin Drew, a retired Air Force Colonel who has flown on two space shuttle missions.  The two will “share their experiences on what it means to be a trailblazer and to inspire others to follow their dreams.”

McGee was honored by President Trump at the State of the Union address on February 4.  Trump announced that he had just promoted McGee to Brigadier General.  Trump also introduced McGee’s great grandson, 8th grader Iain Lanphier, who wants to go to the Air Force Academy and “has his eye on the Space Force.”
