NASA TO DISCUSS INDEPENDENT REVIEW BOARD FINDINGS ON PSYCHE MISSION, Nov 4, 2022, virtual, 2:00 and 1:00 pm ET

NASA will discuss the findings of the Independent Review Board (IRB) that investigated why the Psyche asteroid mission was not able to meet its September 2022 launch date due to problems certifying software.

The IRB was part of a termination/continuation review to decide whether to cancel the mission or fix the problems and proceed. NASA decided to proceed. The new launch date is October 2023.

On November 4, NASA will hold a Town Hall meeting with the science community at 12:00 pm ET and a media teleconference at 1:00 pm ET to discuss the IRB results and its decision.

Participants in the 1:00 media telecon are:

  • Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, Washington
  • Lori Glaze, division director for Planetary Sciences, NASA Headquarters
  • Laurie Leshin, director, Jet Propulsion Laboratory
  • Tom Young, chair, Independent Review Board

Information on how to participate in the 12:00 pm ET Town Hall meeting and ask questions are in NASA’s press release.

The media telecon will be livestreamed on NASA Live.
