REENTRY OF CHINA’S TIANGONG-2 SPACE STATION, July 19, 2019, Pacific Ocean

China has announced that it will make a controlled deorbit of its 8.6 metric ton Tiangong-2 space station on July 19, 2019.  It will reenter over the Pacific Ocean.  Whatever pieces survive will fall into the ocean.  China did not say what time the reentry would occur.

Tiangong-2 is China’s second space station (Tiangong-1 made an uncontrolled reentry last year).  Launched on September 15, 2016, it was visited by only one two-person crew for 30 days shortly after it reached orbit.
