SCOTT KELLY-JOE PALCA CONVERSATION RE KELLY’S NEW BOOK, Nov 3, 2017, DC, 7:00 pm ET

The Smithsonian Associates, in collaboration with Politics and Prose bookstore, is sponsoring a conversation between former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and NPR science correspondent Joe Palca on Kelly’s new book “Endurance: A Year in Space, a Lifetime of Discovery.”

On his fourth spaceflight, Kelly spent 340 days aboard the International Space Station, which NASA refers to a year in space (although it is 25 days short of a year).  It is a record for the longest continuous time spent in space by an American astronaut. His book is about that and other life experiences, including the challenges of returning to gravity after that length of time.

His twin brother, Mark, is also a former astronaut who is married to former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who survived an assassination attempt while Scott was aboard the ISS on an earlier flight.  Scott’s book describes what it was like to learn that news while in space and unable to help his family in person.

It will be held at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium, 730 21st St., NW (21st & H), Washington, DC, at 7:00 pm ET.

Details are on the event’s website.
