REVISED TIME, WITNESSES

SENATE COMMERCE CMTE HRG ON THWARTING CHINA IN THE SPACE RACE, Sept 3, 2025, DC, 10:30 am ET

Update, September 2:  The committee announced today that the time and witness list for the hearing has changed.

It now will begin at 10:30 am ET instead of 10:00 am ET.

Cutler and Bridenstine will still testify, but Cavossa will not and Mike Gold from Redwire and Lt. Gen. John Shaw (Ret.) have been added.  Cavossa told us this afternoon that CSF was notified late last week they were being moved to a future “commercial” space panel.

The revised witness list is:

  • Mr. Allen Cutler, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Coalition for Deep Space Exploration
  • Mr. Michael Gold, President of Civil and International Space for Redwire
  • The Honorable Jim Bridenstine, Managing Partner of the Artemis Group and Former Administrator for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
  • Lieutenant General John Shaw, Former Deputy Commander of the U.S. Space Command

Original Entry: The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will hold a hearing on September 3, 2025 at 10:00 am in 253 Russell Senate Office Building on “There’s a Bad Moon on the Rise: How Congress and NASA Can Thwart China in the Space Race.”

The hearing will be livestreamed on the committee’s website and YouTube.

Witnesses (as of August 27) are:

  • Mr. Allen Cutler, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Coalition for Deep Space Exploration
  • Mr. Dave Cavossa, President of the Commercial Space Federation
  • The Honorable Jim Bridenstine, Managing Partner of the Artemis Group and Former Administrator for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration

In announcing the hearing, committee chairman Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), said:

“For decades, NASA has made the United States a global leader in space explorations, scientific discovery, and innovation. But make no mistake: we are in a 21st century space race. Communist China is not playing by the same rules, and they are aggressively investing resources to dominate space. This hearing is an important opportunity to chart a course that reinforces American leadership in space, strengthens NASA, fuels our growing commercial space sector, and protects our economic and national security interests in the final frontier.”
