WORLD SPACE WEEK 2017, Oct 4-10, 2017, worldwide

In 1999, the United Nations declared October 4-10 to be World Space Week in recognition of the launch of the world’s first satellite by the Soviet Union, Sputnik 1, on October 5, 1957, and the entry into force of the U.N. Outer Space Treaty 10 years later on October 10, 1967.

This year marks milestones for both — the 60th anniversary of Sputnik and the opening of the Space Age, and the 50th anniversary of the treaty.

Events are held worldwide.  The theme for 2017 is “Exploring News Worlds in Space.”  More information and a list of events by country is on the World Space Week website [www.worldspaceweek.org].
