YURI’S NIGHT 2018, Apr 12, 2018, global

Yuri’s Night is celebrated around the globe on April 12 every year in recognition of the first time a human being flew into space — the April 12, 1961 flight of the Soviet Union’s Yuri Gagarin, who made one orbit of Earth.

Coincidentally, it is also the anniversary of the first launch of the U.S. space shuttle exactly 20 years later. (Coincidental because the launch was scheduled for April 10, but slipped two days.)

Events are held around the world.  A list is available on the Yuri’s Night website.
