ZUMA LAUNCH BY SPACEX, Jan 7, 2018, Cape Canaveral, FL, launch window 8:00-10:00 pm ET (webcast)
Event Navigation
SpaceX plans to launch the Zuma satellite on a Falcon 9 rocket on January 7, 2018 during a launch window that opens at 8:00 pm ET and closes at 10:00 pm ET. This launch has been postponed a number of times, but hopefully will go on time tonight. The weather forecast is 80 percent favorable.
Zuma is a highly classified mission whose existence became known only in October 2017. Built by Northrop Gumman, its purpose and the orbit into which it is to be placed are not publicly known.
Originally scheduled for launch in November 2017 from Launch Complex-39 at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, it now will take place from Space Launch Complex-40 (SLC-40) at the adjacent Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS).
SpaceX will attempt to land the Falcon 9 1st stage back at Landing Zone 1 at CCAFS
SpaceX will webcast the launch beginning 20 minutes before the launch and, presumably, the landing 7 minutes and 56 seconds after launch. The January 2018 SpaceX press kit for the launch shows these times for specific launch and landing events:
