IAC BRIEFING: MOON TO MARS (AIAA et al), May 20, 2019, DC, 12:30-1:30 pm ET

In preparation for the 2019 International Astronautical Congress (IAC), which will be held in Washington DC from October 21-25, 2019, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and eight sister societies will hold three briefings and two receptions from April through September.

The briefing on May 20 is on the topic of “Moon to Mars” and will be held in 2325 Rayburn House Office Building from 12:30-1:30 pm ET. The topic and speakers are as follows.

For the past fifty years only a few nations have engaged in activities in space, but as technology advances and foundational knowledge spreads space has become increasingly important across the globe. The U.S. has traditionally been a leader in exploring and expanding human knowledge in this final frontier. As momentum builds to push the boundaries beyond low Earth orbit, it is important that the U.S. remains at the leading edge of this global enterprise. The panel will discuss why we are going, what we hope to accomplish, the concept of sustainability and the trajectory beyond the moon to Mars.

Panelists:

  • Fred Kennedy, Director, Space Development Agency, Department of Defense
  • Kathy Laurini, President, Osare Space Consulting Group
  • Sarah Noble, Program Scientist, Planetary Science Division, NASA
  • Sandy Magnus, Co-Chair, IAC Local Organizing Committee (moderator)
