IISL WORKING GROUP ON LIGHT POLLUTION WEBINAR, June 2, 2023, virtual, 8:00-10:00 am ET

The International Institute of Space Law’s (IISL’s) Working Group on Light Pollution of the Night Sky from a Space Law Perspective will hold a webinar on June 2, 2023 from 12:00-14:00 UTC (8:00-10:00 am EDT) to discuss its draft report.

Advance registration is required. More information is on the event’s website, which says:

The IISL Working Group on Light Pollution of the Night Sky from a Space Law Perspective recently concluded its working plan, and it has drafted a report containing all its findings. The report has not been made public yet, but the conclusions were shared with all delegates and attendees during the IISL/ECSL Symposium of the last session of the COPUOS Legal Subcommittee.

IISL would like to know your opinion about the report and also with regard to the topic that has been the subject of analysis, i.e. the steady growth in light pollution of the night sky, as a result of the increasing presence in low earth orbit of space objects since 2019, when the first batches of satellites belonging to very large satellite constellations were launched.

To that purpose, IISL is organizing a webinar to which all contributors to the report, people consulted for the report, and generally all stakeholders, including representatives from the operators of constellations, as well as all members of IISL, are cordially invited to attend. The webinar will take place on Friday, 2 June at 12 pm UTC, and prior registration is required. Please click here to register.

Once registered, you will be provided the details to access the event closer to the date. The webinar will be held on Zoom.
