LAUNCH OF FIREFLY’S BLUE GHOST AND ISPACE’S RESILIENCE LUNAR LANDERS, Jan 15, 2025, KSC, 1:11 am ET

SpaceX will launch Firefly’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 lunar lander, part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, on January 15, 2025 at 1:11 am ET.  The launch is on a Falcon 9 from KSC Launch Complex 39A. More information is in NASA’s blog post.

The launch will also send ispace’s HAKUTO-R Mission 2 to the Moon. The lander is named RESILIENCE.  ispace is a Japanese company that builds lunar landers. Its first, Hatkuto-R Mission R, crashed onto the lunar surface in 2023.  This is their second attempt.

Both companies contracted with SpaceX for launch. SpaceX put them on the same rocket.  Otherwise they are completely independent.
