NSF MEDIA BRIEFING ON NSF-SUPPORTED EXPERIMENTS HEADED TO ISS, Sept 25, 2020, virtual, 1:00 pm ET

The National Science Foundation (NSF) will hold a media briefing on September 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm ET to discuss NSF-supported experiments that are aboard the Northrop Grumman NG-14 Cygnus mission for delivery to the International Space Station. The NG-14 launch is scheduled for September 29.

Participants are:

  • Dawn Tillbury, NSF Assistant Director for Engineering
  • Peter Sunderland, University of Maryland, whose project focuses on understanding spherical, low-temperature flames that can only be observed on the ISS
  • Yangying Zhu, UC Santa Barbara, whose project focuses on a new method to control bubbles and droplets using light
  • Ngan Huang, Stanford University, whose project seeks to study the progressive deterioration of skeletal muscle with age caused by Sarcopenia by looking at similar effects of microgravity
  • Paolo Luzzatto-Fegiz, UC Santa Barbara, whose work focuses on how particles cluster once the factor of gravity is removed
  • Andrew Morgan, NASA astronaut, who recently served as flight engineer on the ISS for Expedition 60, 61 and 62 (July 20,2019-April 17, 2020), contributing to hundreds of experiments in biology, Earth science, human research, physical sciences and technology development
  • Jessica Meir, NASA astronaut, who recently served as flight engineer on the ISS for Expedition 61 and 62 (September 25,2019-April 17, 2020.) During her first spaceflight, Meir conducted the first three all-female spacewalks with crewmate Christina Koch, totaling 21 hours and 44 minutes.
