PRESIDENT BIDEN SUBMITS FY2025 BUDGET REQUEST TO CONGRESS, Mar 11, 2024, DC

Update, March 8:  NASA Administrator Bill Nelson will give the Administrator’s Annual “State of NASA” Address on March 11 at 1:00 pm ET and at 2:30 pm ET will participate in a media telecon about the FY2025 budget request.

Original Entry: President Biden is expected to submit his FY2025 budget request to Congress on Monday, March 11, 2024, five weeks late.

By law, each year’s budget request is supposed to be submitted on the first Monday in February. Congress has not completed action on any of the FY2024 bills, however.

Under the Constitution, Congress controls the nation’s purse strings. Presidents formulate a request each year, but it is only a request. It is up to Congress to decide how tax dollars are spent. They are supposed to do that by the beginning of the fiscal year on October 1, but rarely succeed.

Departments and agencies like DOD and NASA often hold briefings on the day the budget request is released. We will post any information we get about when they are taking place.
