STARLINER CFT RETURNS TO EARTH, Sept 6-7, 2024, Earth orbit/White Sands, NM, undock 6:04 pm ET/land 12:00 am ET

Update, Sept 6:  NASA has refined the landing time to midnight ET instead of 12:03 am ET.

Original entry: Boeing’s Starliner Crew Flight Test (CFT) capsule will undock from the International Space Station autonomously on September 6, 2024 at 6:04 pm ET and land almost exactly 6 hours later at 12:03 am ET on September 7. That will be 10:03 pm September 6 local time (Mountain Time) at the landing site in White Sands, NM.

The capsule will be empty. NASA decided problems with the thrusters made it too risky to return NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. They will remain aboard the ISS for a full tour (“increment”) and return in a SpaceX Crew Dragon in February as part of the next regular crew rotation.

NASA coverage of undocking begins at 5:45 pm ET on September 6 for the 6:04 pm ET undocking, and will resume at 10:50 pm ET for deorbit burn, entry and landing at 12:03 am ET September 7.

A post-landing press conference will take place at 1:30 am ET.  See our separate Calendar entry for details.
