TRAILBLAZERS IN CONVERSATION: ASTRONAUTS FISHER, SEDDON AND SULLIVAN (Smithsonian NASM), Sept 6, 2023, Chantilly, VA, 8:00-9:00 pm ET (livestreamed)

The Smithsonian Museum’s National Air and Space Museum (NASM) will host an event on September 6, 2023 at its Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA to celebrate the 45th anniversary of NASA selecting its first six woman astronauts in 1978.

The 2023 John H. Glenn Lecture in Space History features three of those woman — Anna Fisher, Rhea Seddon and Kathy Sullivan — participating in a panel discussion moderated by NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy, herself a former NASA astronaut (chosen in the class of 1994).

The other three were Sally Ride, who became the first American woman in space 40 years ago in 1983 and died of cancer in 2012; Judy Resnik who perished in the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy; and Shannon Lucid.

The September 6 event is free, but registration is required for either in-person or virtual participation.
