HASC Announces Subcommittee Members for 113th Congress

The House Armed Services Committee (HASC) today announced the Republican and Democratic membership of its seven subcommittees.  The subcommittee on Strategic Forces has jurisdiction over most military space programs.

HASC is chaired by Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) and the top Democrat (Ranking Member) is Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA).   The committee is an authorization committee that sets policy and recommends funding levels, though the funds themselves must be provided by the appropriations committee.  The seven subcommittees are:  Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities; Military Personnel; Readiness; Seapower and Projection Forces; Strategic Forces; Tactical Air and Land Forces; and Oversight and Investigations. 

The Strategic Forces subcommittee has a new chairman and ranking member this Congress.  Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) replaces Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), and Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN) replaces Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA).   Turner and Sanchez remain members of this subcommittee, but both moved in their respective positions to the Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee.
