NASA TV COVERAGE OF JWST SECONDARY MIRROR DEPLOYMENT, Jan 5, 2022, 9:45 am ET
Event Navigation
NASA will air live coverage of another step in the deployment of the James Webb Space Telescope on January 5, 2022 beginning at 9:45 am ET. NASA says it will stream on NASA.gov/live.
A media telecon is expected to follow the deployment at a time to be announced.
Times are subject to change.
The plan is to deploy JWST’s secondary mirror, which is attached to the telescope by a tripod structure. In this photo, the secondary mirror, with a black cover, is on the far left. The gold 18-segment primary mirror is on the right with the four scientific instruments encased in black at its center. The primary mirror collects infrared emissions from objects in the universe and relays them to the secondary mirror which directs them into the scientific instruments.
A brief video showing how it will unfold is on NASA’s website.
