NASA MEDIA TELECON ON UPCOMING GOLD MISSION, Jan 24, 2018, virtual, 1:00 pm ET
Event Navigation
NASA will hold a media teleconference on January 24, 2018 at 1:00 pm ET to discuss the upcoming launch of the Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) mission. The launch itself is scheduled for January 25 at 5:20 pm ET from Kourou, French Guiana.
GOLD is NASA’s first “hosted payload” on a commercial satellite. It is an instrument on the SES-14 communications satellite that will be launched by an Ariane 5 rocket. The GOLD instrument was built by the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado-Boulder and the mission is led by the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
Briefing participants on January 24 are:
- Elsayed Talaat, heliophysics chief scientist at NASA Headquarters in Washington
- Richard Eastes, principal investigator at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder
- Susan Batiste, systems engineer at LASP/CU
- Katelynn Greer, GOLD research scientist at LASP/CU
It will be livestreamed on the NASA Live website.
NASA held a press conference about GOLD earlier this month. It will broadcast the launch on January 25 with commentary from LASP and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland
