“THE EAGLE HAS LANDED” LATE-NIGHT CELEBRATION AT NASM, July 20-21, 2019, 8:00 pm – 2:00 am ET

The National Air and Space Museum (NASM) will hold many events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.

July 20, 1969 is the day Apollo 11 landed on the Moon and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on another world.  On its 50th anniversary, NASM will hold a late-night event where it will rebroadcast that historic moment.  (Note that the NASM is hosting a 3-day “Apollo 50 Festival on the National Mall” that runs through July 20 at 8:00 pm ET).

The “Late Night” program that begins at 9:00 pm ET is as follows (as of July 2):

Timed Programming:

  • Trivia at 9:00 pm
  • “Eyewitness to Space: Art and the Apollo Program” at 9:30 pm
  • Rebroadcast of Moon landing and first steps at 10:30 pm
  • A special countdown at 10:56 pm ET to celebrate the exact time Neil Armstrong first set foot on the Moon
  • Apollo 11-themed musical performance by electronic-duo Quindar from midnight to close
  • Spacesuit Fashion Show at 12:30 pm
