Obama to Ask Congress To Delay Sequester Again at News Conference Today
Major media outlets are reporting that President Obama will ask Congress to again delay the sequester during a news conference at 1:15 pm ET today.
Congress delayed the dire across-the-board federal spending cuts from January 2 to March 1 as part of the last minute fiscal cliff deal. With the new deadline approaching, no progress is evident on reaching an alternative solution to reducing the deficit. The policy issue is unchanged. Democrats and Republicans both want to reduce the deficit, but Republicans want to accomplish it only through spending cuts, while Democrats want a combination of spending cuts and tax increases.
The 1:15 news conference should be aired on major media outlets, including C-SPAN. It will also air on the White House’s website.
